As a student at Bowie State University, Mrs. Allston was a part of the Alpha Chi Honor Society, Kappa Delta Phi Honor Society Xi Beta Chapter, and received an award for Outstanding Academic Achievement. Mrs. Allston graduated from Bowie State University with honors with a Bachelors of Science degree in Early Chlidhood with a secondary focus in Special Education. Upon graduation, Mrs. Allston was a dedicated special education and regular education teacher for several years. She worked with a variety of students including students with Autism, learning disabilities, AD/HD, and mental health issues. Mrs. Allston has participated in many professional development activities including topics such as differentiated instruction, assistive technology, Computers in the Classroom, behavior management techniques, Dimensions of Learning, Strategies that Work, Soar to Success, a variety of informal and formal assessment tools including WJ III and WIAT II, and most recently, a Wrights Law Seminar for advocacy. As part of her continued graduate course requirements, she conducted two small successful inquiry studies on reciprocal teaching strategies and sight word instruction. The inquiry studies were to assess how and if these strategies improved a student's reading fluency and comprehension. Mrs. Allston also has five years of corporate teaching experience with an extensive focus on test taking strategies, organization, and working with large groups of adults.
As a parent of two children with special needs, she has personal experience that provides a unique perspective and dedication. It is Mrs. Allston's personal vision to ensure that the educational experience of any student is the best that it can be.
Mrs. Allston is a current member of the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates (COPAA).
